...keep it going...
march 27, 2009
So, for those of you who are venturing this way occasionally, and wondering why stuff isn’t popping up here like popcorn it’s probably because the cost for wireless here is ridiculous ($13 per 24 hour period). Considering also how much there is to do and take in, process and connect with, I don’t wonder that people are choosing to remain silent for the time being.
So, this is for those of you out there who are tuning in and want to read about how the conference is going. I’ll give you my thoughts and those of you are here and reading this, feel free to comment to your hearts content. Those of you who aren’t here, comment also! Would love to hear from you.
As usual, Steve Bell’s music and Sister Sue Mosteller’s devotions stir the deepest in me. They did the last time (3 years ago) and they continue to today. Steve’s music is warm and challenging. It calls to me to move into my heart and experience the music and words instead of just hearing them. He really uses his gifts well and I feel blessed to be here sharing in them with my friends.
Sister Sue’s devotions are stirring, I think, because she is so honest and has worked for so long with the l’Arche community, a community that cares for those with severe physical and mental handicaps. Her first devotion was about the Mary and Martha story and how Jesus was calling to Martha’s heart in what he said and probably (correct me if I’m wrong people) really actually spoke more than what he was quoted. This morning one of the members of her community was sharing about her experience there, specifically with another member who passed away recently. It was beyond touching. There’s something so lovely about the simplicity of their expression of love that moves you deep, deep inside. If you’re reading this, thank you Sister Sue for your life and your service and sharing that with us!
Last night, Cheryl Bear shared with us about the First Nations people and their story of sorrow and Christ’s connection to that. (Again, my friends, if you feel that I have misunderstood these things in an offensive way, correct me in the comments.) The way she shared their sorrow was humbling and moving. I can’t say much more simply because I don’t want to mistake what she said and I have more of a feeling of what she said as opposed to an actual account of words. So, please, friends who were there…write me at blog@streetlevel.ca and let me know your thoughts about Cheryl’s plenary session.
Bruxy is talking now and so I will sign off and hopefully grab a good chunk of this for you all.
Peace
